Cassee's Dinner Prayer

Cassee is usually pretty consistent in what she says in her prayers. She blesses everyone to be safe, go to school and work, and to be "sick all better".
Tonight she threw us off when she added something to our dinner meal prayer.
She said her usual, then she added, "Bless us to have cookies and donuts."
Dan and I looked at each other and smiled. Heehee.
Pause.
"And suckers."
A bigger smile and inward chuckle.
Pause.
"And candy."
Couldn't help it, laugh out loud. Haha.
She's catching on, smart kid.

I Can't Eat Anymore

Last weekend we made a trip to St. George, Utah. It took about 7 1/2 hours there and 7 1/2 hours back. We left on Friday afternoon and came back on Sunday.
Half way home I pulled out a bag of pretzel sticks, the small ones. Cassee asked for a handful. I gave her a good handful, maybe 10 to 15 sticks.
About a half hour later (she was also watching a movie at the time) she says, "Mommy, I can't eat anymore." Meaning the pretzels. She was holding her hand out to me to take the rest of the pretzels she just couldn't manage to finish.
I reached my hand back so she could give them to me.
This is what I got:
It was like a tenth of one piece. She just couldn't finish it. Such a kid.
I laughed so hard. I'm laughing again right now just thinking about it!

SnowWhite

Cassidee had a tramatic night. Around 1:30 Dan heard something and went to check on the girls. Cassee was awake and afraid of the dark. He turned the bathroom light on and went back to bed.
Dan leaves around 5:30 in the morning. I got up to pack his lunch (what a good wife I am) and decided to shut the girls bedroom door so they wouldn't wake up to my noises.
As I shut the door Cassee calls out, "No, don't shut the door!" I'm thinking - did she ever go back to sleep??
She came out of her room and said, "Good morning, Mom." I knew she was up for the day. Darn. I asked her if she wanted to watch a movie, so as to not wake up the others and to stay very quiet.
She said, "Yes, Mommy. I want to watch SnowWhite."
I said, "SnowWhite??" She hadn't watched it for a while and I was surprised she requested that one.
She said, "Yes, she's my friend. I love her."
It was said with such a sincere and honest tone I couldn't help but start laughing.

The Salt and Pepper Shaker Girl

Moving always throws a few curve balls that change your typical routine. Since moving to New Mexico and due to the fact that most of our stuff is somewhere unknown in storage (including all of our food storage), we have eaten out more than we should have.
Cassidee has discovered the salt and pepper shakers!
Now everywhere we go she needs to put salt and pepper on her food. She NEEDS to, she says. I know it's because she just wants to shake the shaker of course.
Tonight we went to a Chinese restaurant. I treated myself because I was gone most of the day and Dan went straight to Young Men's night from work.
Everytime I looked away from Cassidee's direction she did a little "shake". Her fried rice had lots of pepper by the end. I took the shakers away. She pleaded to have them back in their little holder. (Of course the holder was right next to her plate.) She tried to be sneaky with them when she thought I couldn't see. (I was rather humerous to watch her out of the corner of my eye.)
Of course they got taken away again before the meal ended.
Apparently we can only go to restaurants that do not have salt and pepper shakers on the tables. Are there any?

I bonked my head!

Cassidee wants everyone to know that she just bonked her head. She came to me crying and so sad, obviously in a lot of pain.

I asked her if she wanted me to take a picture of her bonked head and she said yes.

Of course, taking the picture seemed to ... make it all better.

Pretty soon I couldn't even get her to make a sad face for the camera.

It's amazing what a little camera in your face can do!

The Nose Horn

I've never been a fan of Sponge Bob, but one day it came on the TV while Cassee was watching. During that opening song (which is very obnoxious...can you even call it a song?) Sponge Bob puts his fingers up to his nose and pretends like he's playing a horn. Cassidee thought that was hilarious and immediately started imitating.

Now she comes up to me all the time, says something I can't quite understand, plays her little "nose horn" and laughs and laughs. I can't help but laugh too!

Driving Mom CRAZY!

Cassee never quite knows what she wants and if she does, she doesn't quite know how to say it. We do everything three times and waste a lot of food. (Actually I end up eating most of it.) Here are some examples:

Example 1
- Breakfast. For breakfast she tells me she wants cheerios. I pour cheerios into a bowl. Instantly she gets mad and doesn't want them. She points to another box. Oh, she wanted Honey Bunches of Oats instead. I pour the cheerios back and pour honey bunches instead. Next I ask if she wants milk. No she says. I sit down. Instantly she's panicked. Oh, now she wants milk. Ok, I pour the milk. I sit down again. She's mad. She refuses to eat her cereal. She didn't want milk on it after all. Sheesh, I can't win. I learned to ask each question at least three times. If every answer is the same (which they usually are not!) then I follow through.

Example 2
- Doing her hair. She loves to get her hair done cute. She watches in the mirror while she stands on a stool. She smiles at herself in the mirror. I say, what hair-do do you want. She says pig-tails. I part the hair and do pig-tails. She gets mad and pulls her hair out of the bands. Sigh. What other pig-tails are there without them actually being pig-tails. Umm? Just the top half? Ok, now she's happy, except I forgot the bows. Pink? no. White? no. Purple, yes. Finally we are done with the hair.

Example 3
- The clothes. I pull out three bottoms and three tops. I let her pick. She grabs the pink shorts. I put the other two away. Instant panic! She wanted the blue ones, how dare I put them away! Repeat that with the shirts! Repeat that with the socks. Repeat that with the shoes!
I'm exhausted and notice that it's only 7:45 in the morning. (And this whole situation is not getting better with her increased ability to talk!)

Example 4 - Lunch. I say what do you want for lunch. She says bwead. (bread) I say what do you want on the bread? She says, peanut butter honey. I get out the peanut butter. She panics and cries out not that peanut butter. What peanut butter then? She shows me in the frig. Oh, she wants just butter. I get the honey. Panic again! I don't want the honey bear! You just want bread with butter? Yes.
Ok, I guess I'll eat the other two sandwiches I just made!

I wish I could read minds and predict the future!

"I did it last night!"

Kids go in spurts for everything. Things they eat, what book they want read, what movie they watch (over and over and over!). This also applies to prayers.
For the last few months Cassidee has wanted to say every prayer: family prayer, eating prayer, FHE prayers, etc. She would get mad at us if someone else started saying the prayer. We often had to have an extra prayer just so she could say it too. Whatever! It's probably better than having the kid who refuses to pray.
Then one day for breakfast (it was just Adam, Cassee and I) I asked her to say the prayer on the food. She turned to me and said, "No, I did it last night!" with a puzzled how-could-you-not-remember voice.
Oh, I thought, she did? Whatever, I'll say it then.
At lunch she again said, "No, I did it last night!" ...okay, again.
That night for family prayer she said the same thing. Fine, someone else said the prayer. This is a switch! Usually she wants to say every prayer, but, oh well.
The next morning for breakfast she says the same thing, "No, I did it last night!"
I tell her no, she didn't and she just repeats the line over and over and insists she can't say the prayer because "she said it last night!". I don't even think she knows what 'last night' means.
Now, about two weeks later she's still saying that often. Once in a while we get her to say the prayer, but we have to convince her that she didn't just say it "last night".
I guess this is one of those "spurts" of not wanting to pray! Such a funny line she came up with though!

Nap or no nap?

Don't you just love that age when kids think they are too old to take naps and when you force them they just fool around in their rooms anyway. And then they fall asleep in the middle of the family room later on because they do of course still need a nap.

Don't you just love that?

Cassidee's lunchbox

The other day Cassidee decided to go to school too. She even packed her own lunchbox.

This is what I found when I looked inside.

The banana grams game, a magazine (folded to fit), and a little peach from outside on the ground.
Obviously she's all set!

Cassee's version

Cassee was so cute today. She was entertaining Adam for me. He was having a great time. I asked her what she was playing. She said she was playing a game of "pink-a-boo". It's funny what they think they hear!
